To Date a Traveling Girl or Not. That is the Question…

travelcollage

I read both these articles recently; one about NOT dating a girl who travels and the other about why you SHOULD date a girl who travels.

I have no clue how to respond. Because I think I agree with both, and can relate to both. I’ve seen a lot of things in the world, and the same things that impress some people don’t impress me. It’s not that I’m hard to please, I just have different interests than the average person. It’s not that I’m spoiled because of traveling, I just now look at life with a different lens. So maybe that does mean travel has ruined me. And if you’re a pessimist, then that’s probably the way you will see it. I’d like to think of myself as an optimist, and see travel as life-changing, for the better. My eyes have been opened to the wonders of the world, big and small. I see things in a new way, a different way than everyone else. Except those of course who have traveled, and have had the opportunity to have their eyes opened by the beauty of the world.

Honestly, travel with me, and you get to see the real me: the insanely happy, fun, mellow, curious, friendly, exciting person that I think I am when I travel. I don’t need an agenda, or a plan. While it’s nice to have those things and I do well to follow them, I love the adventure of not knowing what I’m getting myself into, planning things as they go, or changing plans along the way. That’s the kind of traveler I am and I love the person I become when I travel.

So yeah, maybe I’m biased (as I am in most cases when I say maybe…), but I think you should date a girl who travels! She’s unique, and curious, and probably really interesting, but also humble (usually), and kind. She has met people of all races, walks of life, economic status, political status, you name it. She’s going to be pretty dang accepting of whatever gets thrown at her. But she also won’t have the patience for crap, because she’s dealt with shopkeepers in markets around the world and is NOT gonna take crap, or stupid deals, from anyone. She’s not gonna be the one begging for brand names. (Though she might brag about that $10 knock-off she bought in some little market in an Asian country as she sees a girl walk by with the $300 equivalent of the bag on her shoulder.) She has seen love and kindness in so many forms all around the world, and one of her biggest goals in life will be to love others as she has experienced.

But one of my favorite reasons you should date a girl who travels? Because…. Well the 1st author just puts it so beautifully –

“If she says she loves you, she must have seen something in you, something that can always call her back from her travels, something that can anchor her to the world in the way that she wants to after weeks and months of traveling…” (by Aleah Taboclaon)

Here are the 2 articles:

Why you SHOULD date a girl who travels.

Why you SHOULD NOT date a girl who travels.

What do you think?!

Is it better to stay away from the “wanderlust-hungry” girls like me?

Or should guys step up and know that traveling girls are in fact the best ones to date? 😉

    1. Looks like a pretty cool project! I am not sure about a collaboration right now, as I am still in the States, and will not be traveling for a little while, but thanks for asking. Good luck with your work! Your story looks very interesting 🙂

  1. I agree with you… They both make sense. I felt like I could relate to both so I’m confused too. I think it just takes an equally awesome person with similar goals, interests, and ambition to date a traveler. Whether it’s a guy or a girl… If they travel they’re probably awesome.

    1. They do both make sense! I totally agree… It’s hard to choose what is better. While I would like to think that people who like to travel make better companions, there are plenty of reasons why they are not good to try and settle down with – especially at a young age when there is much less to tie someone down! I do think that people who travel will make the best significant others, but if you don’t have similar goals and desires – along with differences to balance each other out – then things probably are not going to work out. Adventurous spirits need other adventurous spirits!
