Pronounced DOE-mih-NEE-kuh, the Nature Island
On Monday I went on an FDP to see the last native people left on the island. When the itinerary said we were going to see indigenous people and their villages and way of life, I didn’t expect to see small plantation style houses and everyone wearing jeans and tees. The only “indigenous” things they did were cook us cassava bread over an open campfire (but on a metal pan), weave baskets, squeeze the juice from sugar cane and grow lots of fruits and vegetables. We had arrived an hour and a half late because of a construction detour, and then the detour still ended up driving us through a construction site. But that wasn’t even the FIRST problem we had. The tour guides didn’t even know we were supposed to be doing one of the activities on our itinerary
